Storm & Hail Damage
Roofing and exterior work involving an insurance claim, from the first inspection through the completed repairs. Serving Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington DC, and West Virginia.
How We Help
Most homeowners file a roof claim once in their lifetime. The process is unfamiliar, the paperwork is specific, and the outcome depends heavily on what gets documented and when.
Our role is the roofing side of the claim. We inspect the damage, document it with photos and measurements, meet the insurance adjuster on site so the scope reflects what is actually up there, and then complete the approved work. You file the claim and your insurer decides coverage. We make sure the roof is properly represented in that decision.
If we inspect and do not find claimable damage, we will tell you that. Filing a claim that gets denied still goes on your record.
Step by Step
The sequence matters. Getting it in the right order avoids most of the problems homeowners run into.
We look at the roof and exterior first. If there is claimable damage, we document it. If there is not, you have saved yourself a claim on your record.
You contact your insurer and open the claim. We can walk you through what they will ask, but the claim is yours to file.
Your insurer sends an adjuster. We meet them at the property so they see what we documented and the scope reflects the full damage, not just what is visible from the ground.
The insurer issues an approved scope and settlement. We review it against our inspection and flag anything that was missed.
We complete the repairs or replacement to the approved scope. If conditions on the roof differ from the estimate once work begins, we document that and submit a supplement rather than absorb it or skip it.
When You May Need It
Storm damage is the most common covered cause. These are the events worth having inspected.
Hail bruising on shingles is often invisible from the ground and still shortens the roof's life. It is also the damage insurers most commonly cover.
Shingles lifted, creased, or blown off. Siding and gutters frequently take damage in the same event.
Impact damage to the roof, and often to gutters, siding, and skylights as well.
Water that got in because a storm damaged the roof is a different claim than a slow leak from age. Timing and documentation matter.
Why Choose Todd Masterson Roofing & Exteriors
The roofing side of a claim is where experience makes the difference.
The process is routine for us and unfamiliar for most homeowners. We know what documentation the adjuster needs and how the scope should read.
Scopes written from the ground miss damage. We are on the roof with the adjuster so the approved scope matches reality.
Storms that damage the roof usually damage siding, gutters, and trim too. We inspect all of it so it is included in the same claim.
If conditions on site differ from the approved scope, we document and submit that rather than cutting corners to fit the number.
Worth Knowing
A few things worth understanding before you sign anything.
You pay your deductible regardless of who does the work. Be cautious of anyone who offers to waive or absorb it.
Some contractors ask homeowners to sign agreements that assign the claim or commit you before the scope is known. Read anything you are asked to sign, and ask what it commits you to.
Policies have time limits for reporting storm damage. If a storm has come through, have the roof looked at soon rather than next season.
After a major event, out-of-area crews arrive, take deposits, and leave. Work with a contractor who was here before the storm and will be here after.
We are roofing contractors, not adjusters or attorneys. We do not negotiate your claim or interpret your policy. We document the damage and do the work.
Storm Damage
Tell us what happened and when. We will look at the roof and exterior, tell you what we found, and document it properly if there is a claim to make.
